Kaboyo S.S, a 40 year old government aided school operates on 8 solar powered computers, without science and computer laboratories

Authorities at Kaboyo senior secondary school in Mugusu town coincil Kabarole district are appealing to the government to come to their rescue and establish a modern ICT and science laboratories to help the learner’s undertake both ICT and science lessons.
Whereas the government is prioritizing ICT and science lessons to enable learners acquire skills that are deemed fit on the global market, a government aided school founded in 1982 by the church of Uganda in Mugusu town council, Kabarole district teaches ICT lessons to over 300 learners using only 8 sollar powered computers, installed in an old dilapilated room.
Atukunda Winnie, head teacher Kaboyo secondary school says that during UNEB the institution is normally forced to incur an expense to hire laptops which learners have to use for their practical lessons and prior to the buying of generators they had to necessarily suspend sessions due to electricity challenge.
According to Atukunda, The school lacks a science laboratory to conduct experiments which continues to hinder the performance of learners, adding that the school has improvised a room where all science equipment is kept, with most of them dusty because they are placed on ground.
Apart from operating without computer and science laboratories, Kaboyo secondary school doesn’t have enough teaching staff with majority of staff not on government payroll while the school also has no enough class rooms with three senior one steams sharing the main hall which is separated by cardboards.
It should be note that in April last year, Kabarole district leaders including Burahya county Member of Parliament Stephen Kagwera, district chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga, former headteachersof the school. PTA and board of governors convened at the school to find an ever lasting solution to the problems but close to two years down the road, the school remains in a sorry state.
Our effort to reach out to Stephen Kagwera, the Burahya county Member of Parliament on the matter was in vain as he couldn’t pick our repeated calls.
