Fort Portal Journalists Storm Police Demanding Justice Over Torture

Over 40 electronic and print journalists operatinging Fort Portal have this morning stormed the police station demanding justice after the torture of their colleague Fortunate Katungi of Jubilee FM. Katungi Fortunate while in the company of his colleagues Silvia Kugonza a reporter, Ritah Kobusinge news anchor, Joshua Ahabyona his co sports presenter on Wednesday night at around 7:20PM was beaten by security in Kisenyi , Fort Portal town.

The journalists condemned the manner in which they are mistreated and demanded the police to investigate the torture case of Katungi and have the implicated officers arrested and prosecuted in courts of law.
They reported of a case of grievous assault at the Fort Portal Police station and Police Professional Standards Unit Rwenzori. The aggrieved journalists have vowed to ban police coverage and Kabarole district Covid 19 Task Force Activities during this Pandemic should the security fails  to investigate and arrest the implicated officers.
Felix Basiime Chief Bureau Daily Monitor Rwenzori region said the will be followed to the top authorities should the police Commander fails to heed to their demand. RDC Kabarole district Steven Asiimwe has directed the Regional Police Commander to investigate the cases saying assaulting and beating people by security is not allowed during the implementation of the Covid 19 lock-down. He however asked the DPC not to deploy the officers who are mentally ill or not sober.
