FDC Party Gives Electoral Commission Ultimatum On 2021 Elections Roadmap

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has issued an ultimatum to the Electoral Commission demanding a revised 2021 elections roadmap.

FDC President, Patrick Amuriat says the Electoral Commission must within a week issue a new road map for the 2021 elections. The FDC leader while addressing Journalists in Kampala said the Justice Byabakama Commission risks dire consequences if a new road map is not drawn.

Pressed further, Amuriat said the FDC Party leadership will meet and decide the next course of action.   According to the 2019 Electoral Commission roadmap, nomination of district/city special Interest Group committees should have been conducted by end of May.

But most of the activities planned between March to June 2020 have been affected by the COVID-19 lockdown measures including the need for social distancing.   But Amuriat says the country should not be held into speculation on when or whether the 2021 elections will be held.

He says the Electoral Commission must be guided by the requirements of the constitution regarding the conduct of the elections.

On their party , Amuriat says the Party has already revised its roadmap following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19

He says the FDC  will issue its fully revised roadmap detailing the measures and processes the party will undergo to identify presidential, parliamentary and local government candidates.

The Electoral Commission spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa in an interview said the commission will soon address the public about a new road. He did not however say when the address will be made.
