Gender Minister Launches SAGE Program in Rwenzori, Gov’t to Enroll The Program Country Wide
The Minister of Gender, Labor and Social Development Hon. Frank Tumwebaze has launched the Senior Citizens Social Assistance Grant (SAGE) in the Rwenzori Region with a call on Stakeholders in the distribution of the funds to avoid defying the COVID 19 measures.
According to Minister Tumwebaze, the disbursement of the funds to the remaining districts of Kabarole, Kamwenge, Bunyangabu and Ntoroko is in fulfillment of the NRM pledge saying the program is now going to be universal.
Speaking at the Launch held at the Kabarole District Headquarters in Kitumba, Minister Tumwebaze said they allocated 62.8bn shillings in this financial year to be disbursed to all 358,420 older persons in the country. He says each older person aged 80years will receive 25,000shs from January to date worth 150,000shs
Richard Rwabuhinga the District Chairperson Kabarole revealed that 4,212 older persons in the district will receive the funds this financial year. He however decried the disparity in the disbursement of the funds across the country with the first phase benefiting districts older persons starting from 65years.
The beneficiaries applauded President Museveni for fulfilling his pledge.
