Inter-Religious Council Tooro Petition Minister over Fort Portal City Boundaries
Members of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda Tooro region have petitioned the Minister of Local Government Hon. Raphael Magyezi to address the boundaries and demarcations of Fort Portal Tourism City with the seriousness it deserves.
In their letter Dated 23rd July 2020, signed by seven senior religious leaders in Tooro, quoted the Town clerk Fort portal’s letter dated 27th February 2019, that specified boundaries of Fort Portal City as approved by council and the Tooro Resort stakeholders meeting that comprised of all leaders.
They say Central division should include the area currently under East and South Division, Ibaale Parish and the parishes of Rubingo and Gweri in Karambi. In the letter, North Division should take up areas under West Division, Buteebe in Karambi, Karago, Kiguma and Bukuuku Sub Counties.
After the demarcations, a meeting was held at Mountains of the moon hotel by the Former Minister of Local Government Hon. Tom Butime and some individuals that tasked the minister to allow Karambi, Bukuuku and Karago form North Division and the former Municipality form Central division which the ministry adopted.
According to the Petition, any other individual or group of people with demarcations deviating from these that were debated and passed by council are unacceptable and contempt of the people of Tooro.
They ask the minister to disregard the recent submitted boundaries because they wanted to reverse what was legally resolved by the relevant statutory organs.
The petition states that as senior religious leaders, they have divine mandate to guide society to ensure there is peace and harmony and also correct or appeal to individuals who have personal interests and hence causing antagonism and confusion in society to stop it. They add since all religious leaders have their headquarters in the city, they wish to see stability, harmony, good governance and development in the city.
