Kasese Teenage Girls Living in Camps are in fear of unwanted pregnancies…

Hemtog Foundation Uganda in partnership with Rural Women and Orphans Empowerment Initiative has donated out reusable sanitary pads to the young girls and women in Kasese district.

Sharot Mbambu, 15 years old said their parents are unable to buy for them sanitary pads, clothes and other health hygienic related items amidst covid-19 global pandemic and floods that recently forced them to live in Camps.

Julian Baita, the project officer “Get Up, Speak Out” on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights said the situation in camps does not provide safe spaces for both family heads and children since they share the same tents.

Ms Baita added that as a result of poverty and the current situation, young girls are being enticed by old men giving them gifts and small amounts of money in exchange of sex.

Padoney Bwambale the Executive Director, Hemtog Foundation Uganda urged parents to show their children compassion, love and ensure good parenting amidst the challenges they are facing in the current situation.
