Questions of interim Fort portal tourism city and demarcations are over.
During plenary on Tuesday, 28 April 2020 parliament resolved the boundaries and declare the new cities.
The new cities will be operationalised in clusters beginning 1 July 2020, through to July 2023 with Jinja, Mbarara, Gulu, Mbale, Arua, Fort Portal and Masaka taking effect with the new Financial Year 2020/2021.
Since the approval of Fort portal as a tourism city, there have been many questions among Fort portal municipal leaders and Kabarole district leaders as some sub counties from the district have joined tourism cityand their term of ruling is still ongoing.
During a consultative meeting held at Nyaika hotel in Fort portal municipality by Urban Authorities Association in Uganda [UAAU] to collect the ideas of people and leaders that are in power the chairman of the association His Worship the Mayor Njinja municipality Majidi Matambuze said that the creation of the cities was a fundamental decision for the urbanization and development of the country.
He said that leaders have to a bid with what the ministry of local government has decided because councils are the ones which made these resolutions that guided the ministry to make demarcations as every division is viable with income generation.
Principal Urban officer Mrs Kiiza Kemigisa Jackie said that it was a final consultation to form guide lines that are going to be followed in the operalization of cities without legalities.
She added that the ruling leaders who voted for the city they have to move with their city because they know the challenges they have been facing and the urbanization of the city.
However, His worship the mayor Rev. Willy Kintu Muhanga said that their questions have been well answered as the commissioner has assured them that the interim tourism city will be led by ruling mayor as a city mayor, municipal and district councilors have to emerge and form city council while division chairpersons have to emerge with a next sub counties to form city divisions.
He called upon for team work, cooperation and mobilization of the public to develop at the same pace of the city by not leaving them behind.
