Residents of Fort portal tourism city have expressed deep frustration over the deteriorating state of health services in their area, citing severe shortages of essential drugs, medical equipment and bribes mostly at the regional referral hospital as their primary concerns.

The community’s grievances have come to a head in recent weeks, with multiple reports of inadequate care and neglected health facilities.

They complained of lack of drugs to use at the health facilities, increased rates of corruption as they blame their leaders over unfulfilled promises.

Some of the residents noted the challenges faced by most especially pregnant mothers as they are sent to buy essential requirements due to shortage of basic supplies like antibiotics, vaccines, and diagnostic tools that have severely compromised their ability to acquire adequate services.

The State Minister for Primary Health Care Hon. Margret Muhanga who is also an area Member of Parliament Fort portal north expressed concern over alleged corruption at government health facilities.

Muhanga while responding to residents of Fort portal tourism city decried corruption allegations at Fort Portal regional referral hospital where people are asked even up to 100,000 to receive government drugs.

According to the minister, such characters undermine the integrity of the healthcare system, asking locals to always report so that they are confronted head on.

Hon. Linda Irene the Fort Portal city woman MP is optimistic that government policy of uplifting HC11’s and equipping them with drugs would help reduce congestion at the regional referral.
