Toro kingdom opposes resolution of fort portal municipal council of the shifting of lion effigy

Toro Kingdom has opposed a resolution by Fort portal municipal council on shifting of lion effigy from the round about to Balya road which is proposed to be tourist attraction site in Fort portal tourism city.

Approved as a tourism city, Fort Portal municipal council resolved a zoning of the city where tourists could come and find it easy to identify the things they want; they resolved that they are to gazette all tourist attractions [sculptures] at Balya road which will also add on the beautifying of the city.

In a radio talk show on voice of Toro Wednesday, His worship the mayor Rev. Willy Kintu Muhanga revealed that due to transition from municipality to a tourism city, there are developmental changes that are going to take place which has created confusion in the people of fort portal and Toro kingdom.

Muhanga said that the tourism city has its own designs that will make it unique from other cities in the world by putting more emphasis on city zoning.

He added that there will also be widening of Fort Portal- Kasese road and replacing the roundabout with traffic lights which will also affect the lion effigy.

However, Toro kingdom minister of gender and cultural Hon. Peter Sunday Rusoke, the lion is a symbol of the ruling King in Toro, adding that there is no need of shifting it from the city  centre ,asserting that  development should come with respect to culture.

Meanwhile, some Toro kingdom subjects say that they are not in line with the opposition of the kingdom because they need development.
