UPDF officer arrested over shooting a civilian

Uganda People Defence Force are holding their soldier Private Nyongesa Joshua for allegedly shooting a 36 year old woman.

According to the UPDF Mountain Brigadier Spokeperson Capt. Edwin Mawanda the suspect is attached to 1st Mountain Battalion at Butoogo un gazetted crossing point.

Mawanda revealed that the alledeg suspect shoot dead Evadesi Juliet a resident of Butoogo village, in Kisuba sub county, Bundibugyo district last night at around 01:00am in the morning.

Capt. Edwin Mawanda confirmed the arrest and condemned the act of misusing fire arms.

He disclosed that the body of the deceased was taken to Bundigugyo hospital for postmortem and it will later be handed over to the family members as investigations are going to find out what could have caused him to open the fire.
