WFP SUPPORT NTOROKO FLOODS VICTIMS WITH OVER 1.7BN SHILLINGS CASH AND 200 METRIC TONES OF RICE
The World Food Program has supported over 3464 households that were affected by floods that hit Ntoroko district last month in the six sub-counties of Bwelamule, Butungama, Rwebisengo town council, Kanaara, Rwebisengo sub-county and Kibuku town council with food relief worth two metric tons of rice and cash of over 1.7Bn Uganda shillings to improve on their livelihoods.
Each household received 555,000/= as others received 189kg of rice with a sum of 360,000/= each.
During hand over which was at Ntoroko district headquarters yesterday Mr. Mutabazi Caleb from the World Food Program asked beneficiaries to use the money appropriately by providing basic needs, improving livelihood of their families
He revealed that they will be working with district leaders in assessing the households which were hit by floods and keep supporting them.
Mzee Sylas Ngarambe the deputy RDC Ntoroko applauded government for supporting these people and hoped the beneficiaries to use the money to provide for their families’ basic needs.
Kasoro William, the chairperson LCV said that it was a blessing from the office of the prime minister to respond quickly as the situation was worsening day by day.
He added that the government need to implement what was discussed in the disaster meeting with the prime minister to end this continuous calamity of flooding that has made leaders worried as people’s lives are always in danger.
The beneficiaries; Timbigambo Annet, Kabasomi Lazina, Kabarokole flood victims said that the government has done a lot as they were not having food, nowhere to sleep however, they asked government to find a solution for floods.
Kaibanda Site a cattle keeper said that they are losing cattle due to flooded water by rotting as he asked government to provide a safer place at the game reserve.
